So I was at the indoor playpark with a friend of mine. It's great--the kids can play with tons of toys that are too big to have at home and we get a little break from being the constant entertainment committee for our kids. I always notice, however, that a big majority of the moms there are "hover-moms," that is, they don't leave their kids alone for even one second. They follow them around to every toy, bike, or scooter their kids decides to play with. I am not one of these moms. Every once in a while I will see another mom look around like, "who is this girl's mom?" and sometimes I start to feel guilty about it.
Until I overheard the following conversation between two moms.
"Well, they have really good nanny services there! All the hotels use them."
"Yeah, I'm just wondering whether to do that, or just bring our own nanny with us."
"Oh, we brought our nanny to Hawaii. We paid for her airfare and gave her a daily rate. Plus we gave her one day off during the week we were there!"
And that's when the guilt just flew out the window. I don't think it will be coming back anytime soon.
