You gotta love Portland

So yesterday we went downtown so Molly could ride the train and bus. We decided to get off at Pioneer Courthouse Square to let Molly run around and we were excited to see a good number of tents set up, which we assumed was for a concert or farmer's market. As we start to walk around I'm noticing some weird stuff. First of all, everybody there looks like they haven't showered in a week. And there's posters everywhere with marijuana leaves on them. And then the band came out and began singing a song called "Smoke Session" in which the lyrics were, and I'm not even kidding, 'when I get home, I wanna have a smoke. Smoke session!'. Seriously. Then I saw the sign that said Global Million Marijuana March. So we laughed and left pretty quickly after watching a little bit and making fun of the whole thing.

Anyway, so we walked around a bit, got some lunch and were walking back to catch the bus when we looked down a street and saw that now the whole group was marching down the streets with a giant green dragon (I have no idea what this has to do with smoking pot?) and singing the song Na na na na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye. Except they changed the words to (this is the part where you sing along):

Marijuana! Marijuana!
Hey Hey Hey,
Get high!

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. I think this might possibly be the best anti-drug message ever. Just have kids go down and watch all the chunky, pasty, greasy-haired people marching around singing this silly song and tell them this is what's in store if you start smoking the weed.
