Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudel

Besides chocolate and Anne of Green Gables my next favorite thing is The Sound of Music. I can not describe the level of love I have for this movie. Not only can I sing every word to every song I can pretty much talk along with the dialogue as well. My mom recorded it off tv when I was little so now when I watch it I remember exactly where the commercial breaks occurred (right before Maria rings the doorbell, right after Liesel gets kissed by Rolf outside the gazebo). Bryan, while impressed I'm sure, pretends to be annoyed whenever the movie comes on tv. I've been telling him for years that a really good Christmas present would be this dvd, especially if it's one that has tons of interviews and behind the scenes goodies. It looks like I'll have to make this purchase myself.
Take a look at Captain Von Trapp.

How handsome is he? He is so dreamy. This particular picture is right before he and Maria dance during the ball and she blushes and realizes that she is in love with him. Sigh. It's so romantic. And when he sings Edelweiss and gazes at her instead of Baroness Schrader? Sigh again. As far as the Baroness is concerned, I hated her when I was little but now I understand her position a little more. I think she really does love Captain Von Trapp and you have to give her credit for bowing out gracefully once Maria returns from the abbey.

Tonight Molly and Amos watched the first part with me (it was on ABC Family). I was very proud of them for understanding how great this movie is. Molly laughed at the right parts and Amos seemed pretty enthralled with all the singing and dancing. And of course, Molly already knows all the words to My Favorite Things since I sing it to her every night. The best part is "Cweam colowed ponies and cwisp apple stwudel."

It's enough to make me want to make them some play-clothes out of the drapes.

I own this movie (the super deluxe edition) because I love it a lot, too. You can borrow it if you so desire. It is definitely one to buy. The extras are great!

Yes, I will need to borrow that. Perhaps a singalong would be in order as well.

The Sound of Kids singing isn't cute. I just recently checked out Broadway songs for kids from the Library, so I can expose the kids to some culture. I have to say that I belt out the songs to the Sound of Music and my kids think I am the biggest goofball on the planet. I think it is great that you introduce your kids to a classic and timeless movie. Hooray for Amber

This is one of my favorite movies too! I also have the DVD as I bought it with the intent to have a Sound of Music party and sing along. I guess I'll have to follow through on that one of these days.

When I was a kid I figured they would do a remake soon and I fully intended to play Maria in the remake.

PS - my daughter loves having Molly in her class too. I really couldn't be more pleased with how that worked out!
