In which we take a much needed break.

On Oprah yesterday there was a segment where moms talked about the things nobody had told them about motherhood. Here is one I have: Nobody told me that even when you love your kids to the ends of the earth, it is amazingly enjoyable to be away from them. In light of that, for Bryan's birthday I surprised him with an overnight trip to the Riverplace Hotel in downtown Portland.

Here we are on Friday night walking on the waterfront. The dragonboats were out, it wasn't raining, and Bryan got to eat salmon for dinner. His idea of the perfect meal.

This picture is entitled RELAXATION, a word you can't really understand until you spend all day with toddlers.
Wait, what's that sound? Oh yeah, silence. It's great. If you look close you can see my books and Red Vines, both necessary items for a successful vacation. And Bryan, of course. His feet are the big ones.
Bryan and I both agree that at some point in our lives after retirement we will go out every morning for breakfast, since it's really the most enjoyable meal to eat out. And if I could have this breakfast everyday, without the calories that would be heaven.

People, that's french toast with NUTELLA, strawberries, and bananas in between. The waiter and I discussed that, technically, this isn't really breakfast, it's more of a dessert. So I ordered some bacon to cut the sweetness.

And here is a before and after picture. Our waiter was impressed with us. I didn't get hungry again until 10pm that night.

I could so not agree more with the statement that however much you love your children you sometimes just need a break. So glad you and Bryan got one - reading this, I was salivating over the thought of laying down in quiet in a hotel room almost as much as the nutella french toast. Also I was salivating over being in Portland. I love that place. Glad you are doing well!

The Nutella and bananas and strawberries...just the thought is making my mouth water. You are quite photogenic. :)
