So here we are. The biggest news of late is we aquired three chickens who live in a chicken coop, nay, a chicken mansion in our back yard. Bryan worked for two weeks building it and it is truly a sight to behold. I was a little nervous about getting the chickens since I'm not an animal person, even in the tiniest way, but these chickens have somehow stolen all our hearts. They are just the cutest things ever. My brother asked if we would be eating our chickens or just using the eggs and I was just blown away. Eat them?? Do you eat members of your family, hmmm? I mean, they have names and everything (Superman, Nugget, and Winn-Dixie). The woman who gave us the chickens warned us that chickens are quite fragile emotionally and that they might not lay eggs for a couple weeks after they came to their new home, due to their anxiety at being somewhere unfamiliar. However, after only one night they were laying, so we feel pretty proud of ourselves about that, thank you very much.
Here is another thing about these chickens. Ever since they arrived Molly has undergone some kind of transformation which I can only attribute to these birds. Case in point: one week ago she gave me a hard time everyday about getting dressed because she didn't want to, or she wanted help, or she couldn't find her clothes, or can you help me? And now, totally independent dressing. She is a wonder with the chickens. She is a little hen mother, making sure their food and water are clean, reminding everyone to lock the door when they leave the coop, and put them down gently when you are done holding them. I guess pets might actually teach responsibility, or something like that. I'm still never getting a dog.
Superman eats her dinner. I know. But Amos really wanted to name one Superman.

I love the picture of Amos loving Superman. Amen on the dog...no dogs is good dogs.
Are they noisy? I always picture them being loud...
They can be a little noisy. But it's not bothersome, plus we don't have a rooster so it's not too bad. And it's only during the day not while I'm trying to sleep, which would totally irritate me.
