First day of school.

There was a point in Molly's life 2 years ago where I was counting down the days until she went to school. She was going through a difficult stage that seemed to last forever and I remember thinking, okay I have how many years until school starts?? I suppose this is a good lesson that no matter the difficult stage, it's just that, and at some point it passes. All of my friends have school age children this year so there has been lots of discussion about first day topics; teachers, lunches, bus rides, class size, etc. And I just have to say, I am so glad I'm not there yet. Molly starts her second year of preschool, but she is in the same room with the same kids so it doesn't really feel that different. I'm not thinking about the fact that a year from now she will be in kindergarten and gone 5 days a week, even though I know she will love it and learn new things and meet new people. And I know, as a friend said, that this is what they're made for--to grow and go to school and eventually leave you forever. But right now I'm glad we are where we are. A little trio that gets to decide on a whim what we'll do for the day. Here is what we did on this, the first day of school for everyone else, and another random day together for us.

First up, a trip to the park. Juice before a bike ride seems to be a necessity.

Riding on the swings, backwards...

Building a sand castle out of wood chips.
Look at that pretty blue sky.
I love September.
Is that a haiku?

Molly introduced herself to these two girls: Penelope (I LOVE that name!) and Mia and they took a ride around the track together. She also introduced Amos like this (with her arm around his shoulders) "This is my brudder Amos. He is kinda shy, but that's ok."

Then a trip to the drypack cannery to pick up 100 lbs. of oats and 50 lbs. of pinto beans. Amos scored a hairnet off the nice man that helped us carry everything to the car. New, not used.

And next to the market for a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk, and a stick of butta.
Quick, tell me where that came from!

And finally home for a picnic in the grass before quiet time.

I only have a few short years left of this life. Soon it will be consumed with other stages, like soccer and lunchboxes. For now I'm totally happy with this, the perfect first day of school.

Sesame Street! It's true. I'm feeling a little more tied down this year due to cruddy time, but next year, gone all day. WOOHOO!
